And here’s another pattern – this time for a collar that can be made to match the hat. It’s even simpler as there are basically only two stitches involved, but if you get the right mix of yarns, quite stunning. To make both together, you will need a minimum of 85 yards of each yarn. I have used three yarns for the example, a chunky (James C Brett’s Marble Chunky) an eyelash (Sirdar’s Fizz) and an unkown slubby thick & thin purchased at a charity shop, wound into the sort of random-sized balls that suggest it was from an unpicked project, though it’s actually quite difficult to unpick. As with the hat, I will do both UK English & American English instructions as the Ravelry Fingercrochet group has members from both continents – and possibly others too!
Beginning chain: Gather the ends of your yarns up together and make a slipknot. Pop this around whichever finger you find most comfortable to use as “hook” and make a chain that fits loosely around your neck. This needs to be an odd number of chains – in my case, 25.
Ch 2 more, then turn and make a treble(Tr) into the top of the second chain from your finger. Then Tr back down the beginning chain. Fold in half and mark the central stitch with a saftey pin or stitch marker.
*Ch 2, turn, Tr into 1st stitch of previous row, then Tr back along the previous row to the stitch marker. Work a Tr Inc (Two trebles) into that stitch, transfer the stitch marker up onto the bar between those two stitches, then Tr along to the end, working a Tr Inc into the last stitch*
Repeat from * to * until it’s long enough, then fasten off & weave ends back in. Sew one or more big buttons on to fasten; your stitches will be big enough to use as button holes.
